Art Throughout History Across the World :: Artists Pablo Picasso Egypt France Essays
Art Throughout History Across the World From stick figures in the sand and the earliest animals painted and carved in stone, people worldwide have reacted to the world by making images. The fundamental goal of art, especially in the past, was to convey meaning and express important ideas, revealing what was significant to every society, by arresting images. In recognizing the subject matter of any painting, you have to look at the artist's intentions, which are regularly connected to social conditions, national or global issues and the demands of the public. To avoid the pitfalls of judging all art by our own personal experiences and subjective views, we have to learn the background surrounding the artist when the work was created- the social and historical conditions of the time and the philosophical views which affected the way in which the artist viewed the world. (Russell, 1984) Art is as varied as the life from which it springs and each artist portrays different aspects of the world they know. Briefly, it may be said that artists paint to discover truth and to create order. The creators of art make discoveries about the wonders and beauty of nature and the dignity and nobility of man. They give these concepts an order to help us understand life in a greater depth. In understanding the history and style of any period of art, we have to comprehend the balance between social and political development of that particular era. Within each and every period, development of style is affected by a response to particular philosophies, social and economic conditions, political and spiritual influences. World Issues have been reflected in art throughout the ages, and this premise is supported by three particular periods of time. This is clearly evident when viewing ancient art, where symbolism was an important part of society. Also, through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, where art was a critical form of expression and finally in the modern age of art where even in looking into the works of individual artists, one can get a sense of the feelings and events of the time and the world. Let us now examine theses three periods in detail, to support this hypothesis. If we are aware of meaning of religious, political, or other symbols, it will better our understanding of the frame of mind of the artist. Each piece of art is unique, a reflection of the artist's perceptions, insights and experiences. Certain aspects of the world are often exaggerated, or eliminated,

Chapter Summaries: Characters Essay
Characters: Bruno, mother, father, Maria, Gretel, Lars What & Why: ï⠷ When nine-year-old Bruno comes home from school one day, he is surprised to find the maid, Maria, packing up all his belongings. He tries to remember if he has done anything ââ¬Å"particularly naughtyâ⬠in the past few days that would warrant him being sent away as a punishment. He asks his mother, ââ¬Å"a tall woman with long red hair that she bundle[s] into a sort of net behind her head,â⬠what is going on. He is somewhat relieved to notice that her things are being packed, too, by Lars the Butler. Brunoââ¬â¢s mother goes into the large dining room, where the Fury, accompanied by a beautiful blond woman, had come to dinner the week before. Bruno notices that Motherââ¬â¢s eyes are ââ¬Å"more red than usualâ⬠as she tells him that the whole family will be going on ââ¬Å"a great adventure.â⬠Mother explains that the Fury has ââ¬Å"big things in mindâ⬠for his father and is sending him to a place where there is ââ¬Å"a very special job that needs doing.â⬠Bruno has never been entirely sure what his father does; unlike his friends, whose fathers are ordinary workers like greengrocers or teachers or chefs, Bruno knows only that his father wears a ââ¬Å"fantastic uniformâ⬠and that there are always other men in uniforms and women with typewriters visiting him in his office, which is ââ¬Å"Out Of Bounds At All Times And No Exceptions.â⬠Brunoââ¬â¢s discomfiture is intensified when he learns that the place to which they will be going is quite far away. The familyââ¬â¢s house in Berlin will be closed up for the present, and Bruno will not be able to return to his school. Bruno is particularly upset that he will have to say goodbye to Karl and Daniel and Martin, who are his ââ¬Å"three best friends for life.â⬠When he protests, his mother first tries to reason with him. She says that in light of all the recent changes in the city, it might be safer if they move away. When this argument fails to convince Bruno, she snaps at him, telling him curtly, ââ¬Å"We donââ¬â¢t have a choice in this.â⬠Disconsolate, Bruno goes upstairs, wondering whether their new home will be as nice as the one in which they are living now. Bruno loves their house in Berlin, which has five stories and a fine banister for sliding down. Theà banister goes all the way from the very top floor, which has a window from which he can see clear across the city, to the ground floor, where he jumps off into the dining room. In between are the floors for the bedrooms (his parentsââ¬â¢ and his and his sisterââ¬â¢s rooms), and beneath the ground floor there is a cellar, where Cook prepares the familyââ¬â¢s food. In Brunoââ¬â¢s estimation, the best thing about the house, in addition to the banister, is that Grandfather and Grandmother live nearby, and he wonders if they are coming along to the new place too. From downstairs, Bruno hears the sound of his parents arguing, but the voices cease suddenly when his father speaks ââ¬Å"louder than Motherâ⬠can and the door to his fatherââ¬â¢s office closes loudly. Sadly, Bruno goes to his room to help Maria pack his things. When and Where: In Berlin the first day of the story Authorââ¬â¢s intention: Chapter: This chapter is to introduce Bruno and his situation.

Why Do Men Cheat On Us - 1438 Words
In writing this paper, I am setting out to answer a question that has been plaguing women for many years. Why do men cheat on us? Is it something us women do that causes it? Is it something they are taught is ok somewhere along the way? Does it have to do with the fact that their genitalia are on the outside? Or is there no logical explanation in the universe for it? (Iââ¬â¢m leaning towards the last one, but hey, thatââ¬â¢s just me.) Men always seem to have an explanation for their behavior, or more likely, an excuse. These excuses have been known to range from blaming the woman they are cheating on to trying to get back at her for something. Having more than just some personal experience with being cheated on, Iââ¬â¢m curious to find out what causesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I found an article in the January 2004 issue of Cosmopolitan that was helpful in explaining one of the theories on why men cheat. According to Shirley Glass, PhD, many men who cheat come from chauv inistic cultures or families where their fathers cheated. Another point brought up by Glass in this article is that men feel that as long as they do not love the other woman, that it is simply a physical thing, then they are not really cheating (Koli). I guess what Glass is saying is that cheating, like abuse or alcoholism, can be a cycle that runs in families. If a man grows up watching his father cheat on his mother, then he is being taught that it is an acceptable practice. Also, men feel that if they do not break their emotional promise to their significant other, then they are not doing anything wrong. While I think the first one is understandable and a valid point, I feel the second is yet another excuse men use to justify an unjustifiable action. Still not satisfied with the answers I had, I went looking for more. I accessed the ProQuest search engine through the Penn State library system in order to search for more articles. The first article, which was originally published in the April 2001 issue of Redbook, agreed with some of the points I raised previously as well as brought up new ones. In the article, four men who have confessed to cheating talk about the reasoning behind their actions. As Glass mentioned in the above Cosmopolitan article, three out of these fourShow MoreRelatedWhy Is A Woman?847 Words à |à 4 PagesWhy Does A Woman Choose To Cheat? The Grapes Of Wrath By Kathi Appelt - 1434 Words
The Grapes of Wrath ââ¬Å"An entire nation, it seemed, was standing in one long breadline, desperate for even the barest essentials. It was a crisis of monumental proportions. It was known as the Great Depression.â⬠(Appelt) As author Kathi Appelt describes, the Great Depression was an enormous economic recession that affected countless people all across the country. One of the most vivid depictions of the Great Depression is found in John Steinbeckââ¬â¢s The Grapes of Wrath. Some may argue that while vivid, Steinbeckââ¬â¢s portrayal may not be completely accurate. However, according to known facts, The Grapes of Wrath accurately depicts the everyday life and class struggle, as well as the influence of religion in the time of the Great Depression.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦They called them ââ¬Å"Okiesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Arkiesâ⬠as many of them came from Oklahoma and Arkansas. ââ¬Å"Okiesâ⬠faced much open discrimination and hostility, including from law enforcement. Being offered little work but plenty of prejudice, life was difficult for migrant workers during the Great Depression (Nishi, 1998, pp. 12-13). While Steinbeckââ¬â¢s main characters are migrant farmers, he still describes how the Great Depression affected folk of other occupations, such as the truck driver and Mae, the waitress. Not everyone moved west when the recession hit; those in urban areas tried to keep their jobs and make ends meet. Many could not pay rent and made little shacks of out cardboard to live in. Groups of these shacks were called ââ¬Å"Hoovervilles,â⬠similar to the ââ¬Å"Okievillesâ⬠in California (Nishi, 1998, pp. 8-9). On the other side of the spectrum, there were some wealthy during all of this. Although still affected by the times, these few managed to keep a higher standard of living than was possible for most. Steinbeck shows that no one was immune to the plague of hardship brought on by the Great Depression. Second, Steinbeck accurately shows the class struggle that was waging during the period of the Great Depression. This tension between the classes is most evident once the Joads reach California. There was a vast gap between rich and poor with not much of a middle class. The rich owned acres and acres and posted guards to make sure that it

Big Data Complementary Audit Evidence â⬠Free Samples to Students
Question: Discuss about the Big Data Complementary Audit Evidence. Answer: Introduction: If the appointed auditor of any organization provides additional services out of the scope of the audit engagement letter, then those services are known as non-audit services (NAS). It covers the services like actuary services, promotion of clients business and actuary services are few of them to be named. When the auditor involves himself in the promotion of the clients business it generates the advocacy threat and it endangers the auditors independency (Ahlawat Nouri, 2015). Therefore, the approach of the LTH to the auditors of the firm CJ for giving speech related to promotion of their business is not as per the standard of audit and CJ shall not accept the offer. The auditor shall not accept anything in monetary or non-monetary form from the client except their fees. If the auditors accept anything in addition to the fees then it will create self-interest threat as through accepting the additional benefits from client, the auditor become liable to the company. Therefore, the holiday package offered by LTH to audit partner Geoff from the audit firm CJ, shall not be accepted by him as it will create controversies related to his independence. Further, the auditor must give true and fair judgment as per the best of his knowledge during the audit procedure (Causholli, Chambers Payne, 2015). Therefore, accepting additional benefits for carrying out the audit smoothly will definitely raise questions regarding the integrity of the auditor and therefore, shall not be accepted. When the close family members like parent, siblings, dependent child of the auditor is in control of financial decision of the client, the auditor shall not comment on the financial statement of the auditor. The financial interest also includes giving recommendations on the investment portfolio of the client or providing any guarantee for the clients obligation. In the given case, the auditor, Michels father is the financial controller as well as the preparer of financial statements of the client LTH. Therefore, if the audit appointment is accepted by Michel, it will raise questions regarding his independency and at the same time the it will jeopardize the credibility of the audit firm too. Therefore, Michel shall not accept the offer to be engaged as auditor. However, if Michel engaged as the auditor of the firm CJ, then he must restrain himself from commenting on the financial statement of LTH. If the auditor is engaged with the assignment of auditing of a company where she was previously engaged as an employee, then it will give rise to the familiarity threat as there is likelihood that the auditor will be aware of the strength and limitations of the company. In the given case Annette was employed with LTH for calculation of tax and preparation of accounts of the company just a month back (Sarwoko Agoes, 2014). It is more likely that Annette will feel that the financial operation of the company is in order and will not go for in-depth investigation. Moreover, the auditor cannot review her own work as it will generate the self-review threat. Therefore, Annette shall not be appointed as the auditor of LTH. Safeguards against the independency threat of auditor Various methods that can be used to safeguard the independency of auditor are At the time of audit procedure, the auditor shall give his judgement that is aligned with the standards of auditing and the professional approach of the auditor While carrying out the audit, the auditor must ignore any influence from interested parties, users and political parties. There must be a rotation system in the engagement of key partners of the audit firm. It will reduce the chances of familiarity and self-interest threat (Khlif Samaha, 2014). The audit team shall have vast level of knowledge regarding the auditing standard and recent amendments of auditing to give best quality to the audit Business risks related to spare parts and equipment To present the audit report in true and fair manner, the auditor shall Analyse the expected level of material misstatement and its impact associated with the clients business Evaluate the overall risk of the clients business due to the accounting procedure, accounting disclosures and the environment of the business (Yoon et al., 2015). Evaluate the impact of identified risk on the financial statements of the client Business risks that are associated with the spare-parts and equipment purchase are Strategic risk: the strategic risk is linked with the inventory management and system of inventory management. the client may exchange the available inventory for purchase of another products or they can control the inventories as per the regulated requirement of inventory management. if the loss can be comfortably accepted by the client, then they can select the 1st option, otherwise they shall sect the 2nd Operational risk: This risk is related to the outcome that after preparing some strategies, the company are not able to follow it completely (Okaro Okafor, 2014). The reason may be the management are not willing to follow the strategies or there is some limitation in the approach of the policy itself. However, for the management of spare-parts inventory, assessment of risk assures the suitable measures for the inventory management. Audit risk type and their impact on the balance The strategic risk takes place while the organisation is not able to develop any strategy or the auditor is not able to control the risk. The accounts affected by this risk are opening as well as closing balance of inventory, net profit and gross profit. On the contrary, operation risk takes place when there is a chance that the risk will not be detected by the auditor. It greatly impacts the transactions of purchase account, sales account, inventories, opening as well as closing stock and the revenue account. Reference: Ahlawat, S. Nouri, H., (2015).
